Canada’s Super Channel has set a May 14th premiere date for “Painkillers”, a sci-fi thriller about a group of US soldiers sent to Afghanistan with orders to extract a mysterious top secret package.
Erica plays the wife of soldier Cafferty played by Tahmoh Penikett. “My character gets herself into trouble. She’s endeavoring to help her husband and save him from the situation he’s in, and she gets in some hot water,” Durance said of one of her scenes. “It’s a wild, wild psychological ride, just hold onto your seat.”
Director Peter Winther confirms to us that “Painkillers” will also come out on VOD and iTunes in Canada a little later. The US release will not be until September.
The cast and director Peter Winther will be tweeting throughout the premiere; Super Channel suggests hashtagging them on it so they can retweet and so forth. #superchannel
“Painkillers” premieres tomorrow May 14th at 8 PM on Super Channel.
“Painkillers” tells the story of a military unit trying to recover memories of a mission gone wrong. With the dubious guidance of Dr. Troutman (Colm Feore) and haunted by flashbacks of snowy battlefields in Afghanistan, the soldiers try to piece together what happened and soon suspect that nothing is at it seems. Shot over 15 days in Calgary and Drumheller, which subs in for Afghanistan, Painkillers also stars Battlestar Galactica’s Tahmoh Penikett, Lesley-Ann Brandt from Spartacus and Bitch Slap’s Julia Voth as the desperate soldiers. Calgary native Erica Durance of Saving Hope plays Penikett’s wife.
